Abstract

The objective of this study is to verify how the relationship between popular and technical knowledge contributed to the agroecological conversion in an Agricultural Production Unit (UPA) of milk cattle in a settlement in the Contestado region of Santa Catarina. The research was carried out by students and professor of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Curitibanos Campus, in the second semester of 2018. The work was based on a semi-structured interview with a family of settled farmers, where the same highlighted their trajectory, the difficulties and challenges of production. Among the results obtained, the interaction of technical and popular knowledge for the agroecological conversion of production was highlighted. Experience has shown that a non-linear process of learning took place in which technical knowledge was added to the popular knowledge, from the farmer's autonomy with the purpose of producing agroecological milk and, in addition, also contributed to raise a critical knowledge to the teaching academic.
