Abstract

In the period from 2003 to 2016, the Brazilian government innovated in the implementation
of public policies for rural women, incorporating the perspective of economic autonomy and
agroecology. Under the coordination of the Policy Directorate for Rural Women of the Ministry
of Agrarian Development, policies were implemented for women, who also contributed to
agroecology support policies. This work analyzed the intentions of the federal government in
promoting the economic autonomy of rural women in the National Plans of Agroecology and
Organic Production. The results reveal little expressiveness of concrete actions for women in
these instruments. It also revealed a low participation of them in instances of coordination and
social control. Thus, the challenges remain of incorporating demand in women into government
priorities and ensuring their participation in social management and control.
