Knowledge to organic product in coastal region of Paraná state, Brazil

The coastal region of Paraná (Brazil) has a strong potential for obtaining agro-ecological products,
as is the case with the organic product. In recent years, several institutional initiatives
have done developed in the region to enable this type of product. Consequently, there is a
demand to promote their local consumption, where consumer research is considered be important
to this aim. Through a survey, 352 interviews were done in the regional seven municipalities,
aiming to estimate the local knowledge about what is the organic product. The average
of 71.3% was found in the region, outstanding the municipality of Matinhos showing that 90% of
the interviews know this, followed by the municipality of Morretes, with 76%. The municipalities
that showed less knowledge about the subject were Pontal de Paraná and Guaraqueçaba,
both with 59.4%. In the last five years, in Morretes and Paranaguá there has been the biggest
increase in people who know what is the organic product.
