Abstract

This work was developed in the community of Monte Alegre I, Upanema, semiarid municipality
of Rio Grande do Norte. The objective of the work was to understand the work of the farmers
in the community. For that, we conducted semi-structured conversations and interviews with
the first two farmers who developed the agroecological agriculture project in the community.
The research carried out allowed us to obtain a new view on agriculture in the semi-arid region
of the Northeast. The importance of agroecological practices and social technologies for the
storage and reuse of water can be verified to allow the permanence of the families in the studied
community. It is also possible to observe the importance of the development of projects,
in this case of CF8, a non-governmental organization, formed by women who, through actions
directed at women farmers, have contributed to the construction of women’s autonomy and in
living together with the semi-arid conditions
