This paper presents a synthesis of the doctoral thesis ´The documentary in the emancipatory fights of the social movements of the field: Social production of meanings and epistemologies of the South against agrochemicals and by the agroecology´ defended at the ICICT of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation. The thesis analyzes the role of documentary film produced in the context of the struggles of social movements in the countryside that, on the one hand, denounce the intensive use of pesticides by agribusiness and its health impacts and, on the other, announce as alternatives the construction of another model based on family farming and agroecology. The three selected documentaries are understood by two dimensions, the communicational and the epistemological. We conclude that the analyzed documentaries contribute, by the capacity to gather science, art and ethics with practices of co-labor-action, co-production and co-creation to create alternatives of communication and epistemological strategies.
