Abstract

In Brazil, solid waste management, especially the organic fraction that is the most abundant (around 51%), is a challenging environmental, socioeconomic and public health problem. The focus of this work was to demonstrate a new technology that, in a decentralized way, contributes to the reduction of organic material destined for landfills and dumps, and is still low cost, easy maintenance and replication. The creation of social technology Composter in design of banana circle was inspired by two already well-known, the banana circle, used for treatment and reuse of gray water, and Keyhole Garden, model in the cultivation is carried out in the same structure as the composter. The technology described here has been shown to be simple and self-sufficient for the decentralized management of organic waste in a high rainfall region, in a proposal that associates gardening and / or composting with the same innovation.
