This work in the Quilombola Community of Cedro focuses on the initiative of a family, Morais Pio, which is set in one hectare reserve for the development of an environmental conservation and recovery experiment, combining traditional and technical-scientific knowledge. Data was collected using two research instruments: participant observation of planting and management practices and semi-structured interviews. The family motivations to constitute this reserve are associated with the autonomous defense manifestation of the local biodiversity and the maintenance of popular medicine practices. After all, the reserve has allowed the family not only to maintain biodiversity in their area, but also to maintain their own knowledge and practices of plant management, their production of home remedies, and their common identity. Finally, this initiative informs us about the importance of associating traditional and technical-scientific knowledge for the benefit of socio-biodiversity conservation.
