Production of biojewelry and income generation of artisans in the community Jamaraquá, Belterra, Pará

The traditional populations in Amazonia using various non-timber forest products (PFNMs) for
income generation. The objective of this study was to describe the cost of production of biojewelry
and analyze the composition of gross monthly income of the artisans of the community
Jamaraquá, Flona tapajós, Belterra, Pará. Interviews were conducted with seven families that
produce biojewelry in the community. In 2015, the average monthly income of households was
R$1.138,57. The marketing of biojewelry represented 24,4% of income in months of high season
(January and July), only 15% can keep the monthly expenses only with the Production of
Biojewelry. All families receive some type of scholarship, which represent 33,4% of the gross
monthly income. The artisans also work with tourism, which comprises 34,1% of monthly family
income. It is concluded that the main sources of income are government grant and tourism, the
biojóia is considered, by artisans, a source of income supplement.
