Abstract

The use of medicinal plants for the treatment, cure and prevention of diseases is one of the oldest forms of medicinal practice of mankind. The present work was carried out in the Cultural Association, in the city of Puxinanã, and the method consists of visits and observation to the terreiro, analyzing the medicinal plants used in the rituals. It is in religions of African origin that the highest incidence of the use of medicinal plants occurs. It is also known that, in Brazil, this knowledge about the medicinal properties of plants of the native flora, such as the black jurema (Mimosa tenuiflora), the lima (Vitex agnus castus L.) and the Purple Pion (Jatropha gossypiifolia L.). Therefore that more studies on these rituals are necessary, involving the medicinal plants
