The role of women in the use and conservation of creole varieties of the Bionatur Seeds Network: memory, knowledge and tastes
Keywords:
Family farming, agroecology, agrobiodiversityAbstract
This work aimed at the rescue, identification and selection of creole varieties of tomato with
potential for adaptation to agroecological systems aiming at strengthening the sovereignty and
food safety processes. In an action-research process carried out through five consecutive
cropping seasons, 28 tomato varieties were retrieved and submitted to the evaluation and selection,
under an agroecological management system, considering the following criteria: adaptation,
fruit yield potential and sensorial quality. The participation of women in all phases of the
research was determinant for the objectives and results achieved, considering the preferences
of use and consumption of the varieties. Some varieties proved to be superior to the variables
considered, being selected for the production of agroecological seeds carried out by the Bionatur
Agroecological Seeds Network. At the end, the cultivar Bio Feliciana was registered at
the National Register of Cultivars / MAPA.
