Abstract

The community and agroecological garden of the agro-extractive settlement Barra da Ipueira was implemented through the extension project carried out by the IF Baiano Campus Bom Jesus da Lapa-BA with the local community. The vegetable garden is considered an agroecological experience because it has been built and maintained according to the perspectives of the principles of agroecology, producing healthy vegetables, which guarantee improvements in the quality of life of the farmers, increase of their income, through the sale of the surplus, resulting in the empowerment and strengthening of its productive activities, with the participation of all social actors articulated, especially several more sustainable techniques were discussed during workshops. This work aims to report on the experience with the execution of the community vegetable garden project, which promoted the associated farmers an exchange of experience related to the theoretical and practical aspects in the cultivation of vegetables and in the discussions on the agroecological principles applied to the productive work of the community, sensitizing as to the benefits of environmental education practices, under the agroecological basis. The work in evidence constitutes an important school-community integration strategy, fulfilling one of the institute's main functions, which is to carry out extension projects focusing on traditional communities and socio-productive arrangements, with a view to producing income, improving the quality of life and collaborate with the preservation of natural resources.
