Abstract

The university's approach to the problems faced by society is fundamental to consolidate the teaching-research-extension tripod and train professionals with the capacity to assist in the resolution of such problems. In this paper the experience of students of agronomy with family farmers in the process of transition from tobacco cultivation to production, processing and commercialization of food will be reported. It is concluded that knowing the heterogeneity and the complexity of the rural environment is fundamental for training professionals capable of working with rural development alternatives.
