The ximenes’s flower: agroecology and feminism

Abstract

This article articulates the experiences of the extension project “Agroecology and Feminism:
Empowerment of the Peasants of the South” with the concepts of agroecology and feminism
discussed in the universe of academia and social movements. The action with the farmers of
the Ximenes settlement, located in the city of Barreiros-PE, has the effective support of the
Federal Institute of Pernambuco and the Cooperativa de Assistência Técnica e Extensão Rural
- ECOTERRA. Initially, the activities were centered only on the sphere of agroecological
production with the objective of generating income and empowering women to participate in
the commercialization spaces. But the activities unfolding showed that the peasants of the Ximenes
settlement were prepared for much more and since then, with great courage, has been
transforming the reality of the Mata Sul de Pernambuco.
