Ethnobotany uses an interdisciplinary view relating the material world, the symbolic and social, through different relationships between man and the environment. The present study aimed to conduct an ethnobotanical research in the Cristo Rei community, in the Tarumã neighborhood of Manaus, Amazonas. The work was carried out from April to May 2013. People from seven families in the community, representing around 10% of the population, were interviewed, the largest number of women interviewed, being the greatest holders of knowledge about the uses of community plants, And those responsible for species conservation in backyards, as well as for medicinal preparations. Only one man was interviewed. A total of 60 species were cited, distributed in genera, totaling 34 botanical families. The most cited families were: Lamiaceae, Begoniaceae and Annonaceae. The most remembered plants were: begonia - ornamental plant; Followed by the medicinal spearmint (Mentha arvensis), in addition to the fruitful graviola (Annona muricata). The results show that ethnobotany is an important tool to recover and systematize traditional knowledge, contributing to minimize the loss of knowledge and to maintain conservation in the sustainable use of plant species cultivated and used by traditional communities. Therefore, all this knowledge can be lost due to lack of more field research in ethnobotany in the study area.
