The dynamics of agriculture in rural areas has been conditioned by several factors, mainly due to adverse climatic conditions. This research aimed to raise the species cultivated by family farmers, as well as the main environmental problems identified by these farmers in rural communities in the municipality of Buriti dos Lopes-PI. This study quantified quantitative approach with a representative sample of 36 farmers from five settlements and two rural communities. Data collection took place through the application of semi-structured questionnaires. The research revealed that all the families interviewed practiced family farming, with poorly diversified agricultural production, where farmers faced problems related to climatic conditions such as high temperatures and small precipitation. The results suggest a joint mobilizing action in order to program governmental actions that provide assistance to rural farmers.
