Abstract

The economy of the municipality of Seropédica (RJ) is highly dependent on enterprises that
generate socio-environmental imbalances. Local family agriculture resists the absence of intersectoral
actions that stimulate and strengthen it. In these lines, the Federal Rural University
of Rio de Janeiro and Emater-Rio have been providing technical and political support to local
farmers. In the present study, the experience of Family Agriculture Fair (FAF-Rural) construction
on the Seropédica campus was described. About 30 mariners, organic and conventional
are participating. FAF-Rural has been providing visibility, recognition and income generation to
local farmers. There is an intense exchange of popular and formal knowledge with unfolding in
academic-scientific works, classes and workshops. The partnerships built are successful and
the articulated actions contribute to the consolidation and expansion of this space of integration
among local farmers and the academic community.
