Abstract

The present report describes the trajectory of 19 babassu coconut cracking women (quebradeiras de coco babaçu) from the village of Serra, municipality of Tufilândia - MA, started in 2017 from the " Knowledge Exchange: Kitchen of Babassu", organized by the Institute of Society, Population and Nature - ISPN. The project aimed to promote the financial autonomy of the group based on the economic potential of the mesocarp. In this work, a participatory approach was used based on experiences of solidarity with women from other villages, exchange, training and information workshops and joint efforts. The results are in line with the principles of agroecology, starting with the re-signification of women who left the invisibility to become socio-political protagonists, breaking up with the sexism through the construction of the processing unit "Hands of Fiber of Babassu", managed through collective action and social capital carried out by the local women.
