The chives (Allium fistulosum L.), known as green chives are very appreciated by Brazilians for giving aroma and flavor to several dishes typical of Brazilian cuisine. This culture is infected by several pathogens, and the burning of the tips (Botrytis squamosa) is very frequent, causing damage to the producers because it is difficult to diagnose. The objective of this study was to verify the interaction of soil cover for the control of this disease. For this experiment we used randomized blocks whose treatments in the plots were 5 different amounts of corn silage straw and the subplots were the application of syrup with neutral detergent. Six plants were collected from each plot, where the total number of leaves and the number of leaves were evaluated, the maximum size reached and weight of each bunch. It is concluded that the burning of the tips seems to be diminished by the shading of the bed, however the productivity of the scallion plants is decreased in this situation.
