Abstract

The objective of this work was to analyze the living mode of peasant families in a comunity of
“fundo de pasto” and to understand their organization to produce their subsistence. An investigation
was carried out with two families of the community of Muquém, Monte Santo, Bahia.
The living mode of these families and the forms of sociability as well as the social technologies
derived from traditional wisdoms were evaluated as fundamental factors to understand
the agroecological potential present in the diversity of existing relationships in the ways of
producing and reproducing the peasant family unit in the “fundos de pasto. The traditional aspects
also present in the culture and in the social relations and productive relations that these
families establish in the community have made great contribution to the understanding of the
sertanean living mode amid the debate of the peasantry in the present time.
