Abstract

The creation of poultry hens has been adapting through the ages. Even with the entry of improved
breeds, families still breed in the home yard, as this is the healthiest form of breeding
for these animals. This study aimed to evaluate the management systems of capoeira chickens
used by family farmers in the municipality of Picuí-Paraíba. Data were obtained through
an exploratory study and semi-structured interviews. In view of the results presented, all the
communities visited have no shed. The interviewees stated that the food most used for the
nutritional diet of the birds is maize, crop residues and household food waste. For the prevention
of diseases in the birds one of the producers reported that uses herbal herbs native and
medicinal. Thus, it is concluded that feeding and prevention of bird diseases are based on
agroecological production.
