Abstract

This abstract presents the oral history approached by the extension project, Memory and Narratives
of the Peasant Struggle in the region of Brejo Paraibano. Its objective was rescue and
record the history of the rural settlements in Brejo Paraibano, specifically, in Bananeiras and
Solânea cities. This intentionality is justified by the absence of records of the history of struggle
and conquest of the lands by the population of these settlements, an absence that may imply
the loss of the memory of their struggles and, consequently, the lack of knowledge of them, by
present and future generations. The actions were based on the methodology of oral history,
interviewing the subjects that were part of the struggle and conquest of the settlements. With
the results of the actions, it was intended to promote educational actions for the preservation of
memory and to guarantee the maintenance of the affective and identity bonds of the resident
subjects.
