Abstract

Artisanal fishing is a traditional activity and has suffered several losses of recognition and
rights, with this respect that artisanal fisherwomen and fishermen should be recognized for
what they develop in a fishing territory and the way they reproduce as social subjects is central
to the construction of public policy. An approach of artisanal fishing with agroecology based
on food sovereignty allows this recognition to be possible, strengthening both artisanal fishing
and agroecology. For that, we used information from a participant observer who acted as technical
advisor between the years 2010 and 2015, based on oral reports and field book, and
bibliographic review. This allowed us to conclude that from the pillars of food sovereignty it is
possible to recognize artisanal fisherwomen and fishermen as subjects of transformation in a
territory, taking care of a common good, from the perspective of an artisanal fishery based on
agroecology.
