Abstract

Urban and Periurban Agriculture - AUP is an activity that can contribute to sustainable local development in the economic, social, environmental, productive and food sectors, and there is an increasing number of countries in Latin America that recognize and promote actions aimed at this type of agriculture in the cities. It is known that the state of Roraima has an expressive number of urban and peri-urban gardens. Thus, the objective of this research was to evaluate in a participatory way the soil quality and sanity of the periurban agroecosystems in the municipality of Boa Vista, Roraima. In order to do so, 23 indicators of rapid soil quality and crop health assessment were used, as well as participant observations and different participatory diagnostic tools, which are recommended in agroecology studies. It was possible to verify that the management practices adopted and measured by twenty-three indicators are among the moderate and desired levels of sustainability.
