Abstract

The establishment of settlements based on the principles of agroecology was and is being a
key factor for the development of the 16 areas of coverage of the “Agroecological Settlement
Project”, in the extreme south of Bahia. The Bela Manhã Settlement is one of the longest in
the process, after 9 years of encampment and many adversities; families established themselves
in the lots from 2015, characterizing structural and productive advances. Monitoring and
evaluating family development is an important factor in understanding the potentials and guiding
new strategies and objectives. They are cultivated by the settlers 22 cultures and worked
with 5 types of animal creation. The diversity of plant and animal production are fundamental
to food security and sovereignty with production aimed at the subsistence and commercialization
of the surplus. Participatory assessment at the grassroots level provided a space for the
exchange of agroecological experiences and practices.
