Production of native seeds in the Bahia countryside

This project aims to implement fields for the multiplication of creole seeds in order to ensure
the rescue, maintenance and increase of the biodiversity of agroecosystems and guarantee
the food and nutritional sovereignty of peasant families in the semi-arid region of Bahia. In its
execution, surveys were carried out on the Creole varieties of corn and beans, training of the
teams, acquisition of irrigation equipment, installation and maintenance of the fields and seed
distribution. To date, 5 tons of corn and beans seeds have been harvested and distributed, which
are helping to reduce the dependence of the beneficiary families and identified 44 varieties of
beans and 23 of maize, and still have to harvest the production of 2 other territories in the state.
