Abstract

Free trade fairs represent a traditional and very old practice, present since the colonial period, was one of the fundamental tools in the historical construction of the country, and today it continues to assume great importance as a source of income mainly directed to less educated publics. Knowing the reality of the fair becomes an incentive to search for the value of this practice. The objective of this article is to analyze the agronomic and social profile of the fairgrounds of the Lígia Queiroz neighborhood, which is located in the city of Vitória de Santo Antão - PE and is 53.5 km from the state capital, Recife. Usually the fair takes place on Sundays and counts on fairgrounds from other municipalities. The research was carried out in April of this year, through questionnaires that addressed the two themes. Based on the analysis of the data obtained, it was possible to note the lack of public policies aimed at developing and maintaining this activity, which plays an important role in the city. It is quite frequented by the local population and exhibits positive growth points as well as its wide popularity in the city.
