Abstract

Terrariums are models of studies used to exemplify the water cycle. Based on these concepts,
students of the 7th grade of a public school in São Paulo, guided by the science teacher, set
up terrariums, replacing ornamental plants with vegetables. For this experiment were used pet
bottles, wather bottles and transparent plastic box in addition to seedlings of Roman lettuce,
purple lettuce, chicory and endive, as well as mustard seeds, almeirão catalonia and watercress.
In this experiment all tested species developed well, allowing harvesting after 45 days of
planting and produced with reduced amount of water, signaling the possibility of planting and
food production, even in regions with few water resources.
