Environmental education as attractive for children and young people from countryside: agroecology strengthening the future of family farming

Abstract

This article has the purpose of presenting the environmental education activity developed in a
State College of the State of Rio de Janeiro, in the year 2014.The activity was divided in two
stages, being a theoretical expository part in classroom and another practice, with visitation
to a family agriculture property whose main focus was agroforestry.This activity was part of a
larger agroecological transition project in the territory where the college was inserted and attended
by many children or grandchildren of family farmers.The main objective of this activity
was to develop environmental education in agroecology for these children and young people,
with the purpose of strengthening the mobilization and the critical sensitization of the local development
model in order to contribute to the improvement of the socio-environmental conditions
and the sustainability of agro- And thereby enhance local knowledge and family farming.
