Abstract

The research was carried out in the são Judas settlement, municipality of Rio Brilhante, MS, with a peasant family that has as traditional practice the conservation of seeds. The seeds preserved and observed in the research are "corn corn", "popcorn" and "peanut". For the development of this work we dialogue dwell with the Creole seed guardians of the São Judas Settlement, and use as references research on seed guardians, traditional knowledge and sustainable practices in peasant communities. The objectives of this research were: to understand how the conservation process of Creole seeds occurs; understand the challenges that peasants face today with the hegemony of transgenics and pesticides; to show the importance of seeds as guarantor of peasant reproduction and their autonomy; and affirm the relevance of preserving the way of life and peasant identity. During this work it became evident the social value of traditional knowledge/pop peasant for the practice of conservation of Creole seeds.
