Abstract

The search for sustainable alternatives has grown considerably due to the increasing use of natural resources, which has resulted in the excessive exploitation of finite raw materials, of great importance for human survival, as well as other species and the environment. In view of the above, it is extremely important to know and study the energetic potentials of each species, with the forage palm (Opuntia sp. Or Nopalea sp.) Being an effective alternative for the production of biofuels and sustainable energy, considering its regenerative properties and generators of active ingredients that can be beneficial to the energy sector. In relation to what was said, an exploratory descriptive research with a quantitative approach was carried out, which was characterized by the application of a semi-structured questionnaire with 13 questions directed to students of Campus II of the State University of Paraíba, located in the city of Lagoa Seca- PB, aiming to have an overview of the perceptions of university respondents about forage palm, its properties and active ingredients. Through the results it was possible to see that the vast majority of students know the forage palm, but a significant portion of them do not know what are the potentials of the species with regard to its contribution to the production of biofuels and consequently sustainability. Therefore, it is necessary to have a greater debate and interaction with the academic community on the theme, seeking to develop projects and advances in relation to the theme
