Spring Recovery in Cerrado Area: Water is Life Project in the Macaúba Community, Catalão (GO)

Abstract

The Cerrado of Goiás, from the middle of the twentieth century, undergoes an intense process of capital restructuring, leading to a wide movement of spatial and territorial reorganization. Among these economic activities, agribusiness, the implementation of hydroelectric plants (UHE) and mineral exploration. As a result of these factors, land use and occupation gained new social and economic actors. In Catalão (GO), these economic actors, when inserted in the productive base of the State, enhanced the exploitation of natural resources available in the region, which increased the levels of environmental degradation. Thus, this work aims to describe the project was developed in the Macaúba Community, located in Catalão (GO). To this end, two springs were chosen to carry out the recovery. The area of ​​each selected spring was evaluated in order to verify the feasibility of carrying out the recovery. The recovery technique used was i) planting seedlings; ii) use of pioneer species and; iii) successional model - planting in alternate rows. fencing / isolation of the area and replanting with the participation of community residents in joint efforts. The results show that the adaptability and growth rate of the selected seedlings is above 70%. The enclosure / isolation of the area helped to prevent the movement of domestic animals.
