Abstract

Jatropha curcas L. is a naturally occurring species in Brazil and other countries in Central and South America. It has high plasticity in its use, standing out in the production of biodiesel. In order to promote management information about the species, the experiment was carried out with the objective of evaluating the initial development of plants in different density of spacing. The experiment was carried out in spacing gradient planting system with four spacing’s (3.5x2.0m, 3.5x4.0m, 3.5x6.0m and 3.5x8.0m) and three replications. The variables evaluated were shoot length and stem diameter at 5 cm of the soil. The different spacing evaluated did not significantly influence the studied variables.
