Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the initial development of Euterpe oleracea in different water regimes, with the purpose of propagating this species in different environments from its natural habitat. The seedlings received the following treatments with water: 0, 3, 5 and 7 days under water regime and were evaluated at 30, 45 and 60 days in the different treatments, the height (cm) and neck diameter (mm). At the end of the experiment, ie, at 60 days, the shoot dry mass (g), root dry mass (g) and total dry mass (g) were evaluated. Seedling survival was lower for all parameters evaluated at 5 and 7 days without water. The height, diameter, dry mass of shoot, root and total were higher under higher water availability. The ideal water regime in the initial phase is 0 days without water, but the seedlings grew satisfactorily under the 3 days under water regime. Treatments 5 and 7 days without water are not recommended because the seedlings underwent water stress between 30 and 45 days of cultivation.
