Abstract

The physalis due to the unique flavor of its fruit and the presence of substances for medicinal use has great economic potential. However, there are few varieties with superior genetic makeup available to the farmer, since breeding programs are incipient and studies on variability are scarce. The objective of this work is to carry out a bibliographic survey regarding the genetic variability of plysalis available for the genetic improvement of Physalis peruviana. In Colombia and other Andean countries there are wild populations that present genetic variability, however they are of little agronomic interest, being fundamental for the conservation of the species. However, the cultivated populations have a restriction mainly for quantitative characters.
