Abstract

The reduced supply of organic maize seeds on the market and the scarcity of information on production and quality are among the main obstacles to the production of organic corn in Brazil. The objective was to evaluate the physiological potential of the seeds of open pollinated variety maize produced in an organic system in. The experiment was conducted at UFSCar-CCA (Araras, SP) from May to October 2016, in DIC, with a 2x2 factorial and four replications. The first factor was the seeds of maize varieties and the second was the storage time in PET bottles (zero and 90 days). Seeds of open pollinated variety Santa Rita 1 and Santa Rita 2, produced in an organic system in the 2015/2016 harvest, were analyzed. Were evaluated: mass of 1000 seeds, degree of humidity, germination test, first count, germination after accelerated aging and emergency speed index in sand bed. The seeds showed high vigor and percentage of germination, even storage.
