Protagonism in environmental actions through the creation of a school garden

The project aimed to contribute to the insertion of environmental education, especially in rural
schools, based on experiences that lead to the involvement of students, educators and
community in leading behaviors, enabling the dissemination of practical and theoretical knowledge
of agroecology, associating them Traditional knowledge of the community. This experience
occurred in the Country school: Municipal School 15 de Julho, located in the Vale da
Esperança settlement, municipality of Formosa- GO during the period from March 2010 to
December 2012. All the elaboration of the proposal was based on a study Preliminary stages:
sensitization of the participants, organization of work groups, selection of the area, selection of
seeds of the species to be cultivated and preparation of materials and, finally, the study of agroecological
management: of vegetables, soil preparation, Natural fertilization, fertilizers and
pest control. The realization of the whole process and especially of the studies and research
that analyze the involvement of segments of the school and community brought a new vision
for this work, positions regarding commitment and responsibility were attitudes that could be
effectively identified. The community began to feel part of the process and although it is a long
way to be traced it registers in the project a matrix triggering a new environmental awareness
gradually built between the students and the community that experienced the project.
