Abstract

The creole seeds are referred to in Paraíba as seeds of passion. They have long been produced and kept by peasant families. Family and community seed banks have been strategies used by farming families to store and protect various seeds of passion. The objectives of this study were to understand and systematize the experience of the Community Seed Bank Network of Cariri and Seridó Paraibano, survey the community banks and the diversity of seeds stored in these banks. The work was carried out in 12 municipalities in the state of Paraíba and in partnership with COLETIVO and PATAC. The results observed allowed to highlight the importance of the seeds of passion as a genetic heritage of humanity and of the Community Seed Banks, as successful collective experiences in the field of management and conservation of agrobiodiversity and in the guarantee of human and animal sovereignty and food security.
