The capitalist model of development has deepened the environmental degradation and concealed
what is sustainability in the relationship between ecology and society. On the other hand,
social movements in the countryside have made possible a rich debate on Agroecology as an
alternative to a new type of food production and a new form of sociability. The objective of this
report is to share the experience of the extension projects developed by the “Center for Studies
in Agroecology Education and Society” of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology
of São Paulo, campus of Campinas, in partnership with the settlement Milton Santos.
From the environmental, food and political issues, socio-educational actions offer important
elements in the direction of transformative practices for a new circuit of production, distribution
and consumption of organic foods, capable of recognizing the link between family agriculture,
food security and sovereignty.
