This paper presents an experience working with the farming community of Santiago Acatepec, which is located in the area of influence of one of the most important natural reserves in Mexico: the Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Biosphere Reserve. Based on traditional knowledge for soil conservation and agroforestry management, an agroecological restoration plan has been proposed. The objective is to improve the productive capacity of agriculture and, at the same time, favor soil, water and biodiversity conservation. To this end, work is being done to incorporate agroecological innovations that improve the ecological health of soils, food production and the propagation of native perennial plants. Based on agreements with the community authority, we seek to ensure that farmers preserve their traditional practices and adopt innovations that support agroecological restoration.
