Abstract

Involving the understanding and dissemination of the concept of food and nutrition security,
through the agroecology in the practice of urban agriculture, the project involves agents of
organizations that seek to apply horizontal working methodology, collective and collaborative
in poor communities. The Elementary Municipal School Francisco Cândido Xavier, welcomed
the project, providing space and time for development of activities with students of 5th and 7th
year, residents of the Housing Allotment Orestes Priest in São Leopoldo city/RS. Formulating
schedules involving activities of planting, composting, irrigation and production of seedlings
that address the practical context the themes of food, agriculture, agro-biodiversity and NUS
- Neglected and Underutilized Species - focusing on the profile of the formation of a student
with critical autonomy and ecological awareness, reconnected to nature in urban centres and
outlying communities.
