There are 677 Indigenous Lands (ILs) in Brazil, which 405 are located in the Amazon, 32 in
Roraima, the Brazilian state with the highest percentage of indigenous population. Despite the
traditional sustainable management of Indigenous Lands, much of biodiversity and culture is
threatened by internal and external pressures. In this context, it was created the Insikiran Institute
of Indigenous Higher Education at the Federal University of Roraima - UFRR , with specific
courses for indigenous peoples, among them the Indigenous Territorial Government Program
with agroecology and sustainable agriculture as a part of the program´s focus. One of the activities
developed was the “agroecosystem design” of the Insikiran Institute area at UFRR, using
the Google Earth tool. The results obtained allowed students to analyze, measure, delimit and
propose solutions and improvements in the studied agroecosystem, in a participative and practical
way, contributing to the management of the indigenous lands.
