13th Sarau do Guisado: for health, sustainability and sovereignty – hooray Agroecology!

Abstract

The 13th edition of Sarau do Guisado, held on May 19, 2016, had as a theme “For health, sustainability
and sovereignty – Hooray Agroecology!”. It was a part of the series of events at 3rd
University Conference in defense of Agrarian Reform in Alfenas. Through art, some issues,
such as food sovereignty, agroecological practice, sustainability and conscious eating were
addressed. Musical performances, theatrical sketches and poetic interventions, interspersed
with moments of “free stage” were included in the schedule of the show. Innovating by approaching
food-related aspects in several levels (political, affective, cultural and symbolic), Sarau
do Guisado is a successful experience of sharing-building knowledge in its biggest meaning.
Even though it doesn’t follow any recipe, it provided leisure and humanhood, mixing art and
reflection.
