Agroecological experience from the development of the school garden

The “University of Life” project was idealized due to the reality of socioeconomic vulnerability
of the students of the Nossa Senhora de Lourdes State School, which generated several
problems within the school community. In the Environmental Education area, included in the
project, the implementation of the agroecological garden had the purpose of providing the integration
of knowledge, giving students the opportunity to learn in a simple and playful way the
concepts of agroecology, sustainability and quality of life. The project provided the students,
from a diversified diet and high quality food and high nutritional content produced by themselves,
the interest and appreciation for the environment and its relationship with society. In
addition, it was an enriching experience for the University’s academics, since they experienced
in practice knowledge acquired or not in the classroom and awakened to the humanization of
the learning process, strengthening the link of university extension with the school community.
