Contribution of the Agrarian Residence Program in the training of rural youth in the agreste and sertão Pernambucano

The agrarian residence program emerged with the purpose of training professionals, especially
rural youth, to work in the field. The purpose of this work was to understand the role of the
agrarian residence program in the construction of knowledge in agroecology, in sustainable rural
development and in the permanence of young people from the countryside, based on their
experience with rural youth, participants in the Agrarian Residency Program. The methodology
used in the study was the semi-structured interview. It was perceived with the research that the
program was configured as a space for the materialization of education based on participation,
capable of promoting reflection on social and environmental issues. The Agrarian Residence
Program strengthens young people’s ties to the countryside, as it allows them to work directly
in their communities, promoting new ways of perceiving the environment that surrounds them.
