Abstract

The present project placed in practice a formation of habits guided in consumption of regional
vegetables and fruits. The Project “The kitchen garden as an educational food/nutritional and
methodological tool for teaching of agroecology”, developed in the Center of Integral Attention
to the Child and the Adolescent - “Paulo Dacorso Filho” had positive effects, mainly involving
students in the planting, care, harvest and consumption of vegetables grown in school. The
contact with the vegetables by the children strongly stimulated the perception of the sensorial
aspects of these foods, demonstrated a valuable period of promoting links and learning with
the daily experiments in the space of the vegetable garden. A number of value-promoting
appropriations were generated while they were able to contact and taste the cultivated foods.
Still Abstract values in the context of childhood, however, postponed to adolescence and adulthood
could act as facilitators of healthy consumption and reducers of the growing number of
chronic non-communicable diseases.
