Diálogo construtivo: a importância da extensão universitária na gestão das pastagens do assentamento João Batista II, no município de Castanhal/PA

Abstract

Family-based dairy farming is present in agrarian reform settlements in the municipality of Castanhal/PA, promoting income generation and a source of food, however, it has been facing limitations, such as: lack of knowledge of reproductive management techniques, animal nutrition, control health and mainly the management of pastures, which ends up resulting in low productivity, increased production costs and the difficulty of maintaining natural resources. Therefore, thinking of alternatives that minimize these limitations has been the challenge of teachers and students of the Amazonian Institute of Family Agriculture (INEAF) of the Federal University of Pará through research projects and university extension. This text addresses the experience developed in the João Batista II Settlement Project, with training and qualification actions, on the importance of legumes in animal feed. The main results showed that the training aroused the interest and participation of the farmers present in the training, as well as enabled the exchange of knowledge between farmers and the team on management practices, including the use of legumes in pastures, which contributed for actions related to the proposal, through awareness raising and interactions associated with agroecologically based production.
