The experience of education in agroecology is effective for the growth of a citizenry that seeks new discoveries and new experiences. Therefore, an extension research was carried out within the discipline Applied Geoprocessing, developed between March and June 2022 in the Technologist in Agroecology course, at the Federal University of Pará, Campos Abaetetuba, which dealt with a mapping of the diversity of cultivated species and their uses in backyards and agroecological yards in the municipalities of Abaetetuba/PA and Moju/PA. The main objective of this research was to highlight the diversity of medicinal plants used as natural medicine by traditional peoples and communities, in addition to highlighting ornamental and fruit plants. Based on this research, we will present the experiences and learning provided in the field during the course, as well as the difficulties faced during the process, how the planning, systematization and data collection took place, among other issues. The development of the research is evidenced through an experience that deals with traditional knowledge, the know-how passed on during the research. In this sense, it addresses the set of local knowledge and learning that reflects an important role that medicinal plants, among other species, play for families and local communities.
