The work reports the Educational Garden project carried out with the children and adolescents
of the Martinho Integration Center, located in Aglomerado da Serra, the largest favela in Belo
Horizonte. The activities took place within the scope of social and environmental education
workshops during the year 2016 and had as a principle agroecology, the collective construction
of knowledge and the protagonism of the students. The experience has contributed to raise
awareness about social and environmental relations in the urban environment, to exchange
knowledge in the process of building the garden, to broaden the debate on the agroecological
movement and to encourage the cultivation and consumption of healthy foods.
