Abstract

Environmental education and its supposed perceptions constitute a series of analyzes that
allow the society a reflection on the practices of nature conservation, so that from the looks
of each individual, it is able to minimize the constant and growing environmental damages
existing in the Microregion of the Açu Valley. Within this context, the objective of this study is
to systematize the environmental perceptions of the agroecologists in formation of the IFRN -
Campus Ipanguaçu, related to the problem of environmental damage caused by the ceramics
and agricultural poles in the nine cities of the Açu Valley. The information was obtained through
the application of structured questionnaires for students of the first and last period of the technologist
course in agroecology, involving socioenvironmental themes focused on the daily life
experiences of the same in their referred cities, where 38 students with the predominant age
group participated 16 to 23 years. The results show that even with the deficiency of the concept of environmental education and its interrelations with agroecology, students appear to have a broad understanding of the main responsible for environmental damage in their cities. However, the implementation of technical and pedagogical disciplines is of paramount importance
in its academic framework that allows students a better understanding of the interrelationships
of agroecology and environmental education. Once the agro-ecologists when formed, they will
be part of the experiences of the farmers in the field as rural extensionists, thus being able to
intervene in environmental awareness.
