Abstract

This text deals with an expanded Abstract presented in the scientific work modality, as a result
of master’s research. The objective is to portray the main agroecological practices developed
in the Agricultural Family Schools (EFA’s), located in the municipality of Lago do Junco, in the
Mearim Middle region, in the state of Maranhão. In the EFA’s, local development is one of the
fundamental principles, being one of the aims sought by the formative process. In relation to
Agroecology is a theme that has increasingly occupied space in the EFA’s and tends to consolidate
as one of the main principles of Alternation Pedagogy. The methodology used was the
case study that allows observing and recording information that contextualizes the subjects involved.
Through the formative processes for the alternation of the rural young people the EFAs
have provided an integral formation that has contributed in the local development. Based on
the struggle for the land, the peasants developed various organizational strategies, including
one of the Field Education based on agroecological principles and practices.
